About Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is a crossover fighting game from Nintendo for the Switch. It brought back every fighter from earlier games, with extra characters added later, which is why the roster is so large.
Competitive tier lists weigh matchups, neutral game and tournament results, while casual ones usually rank by who people enjoy playing or main. Pick the lens first so your list makes sense to the people reading it.

How many fighters are in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate?
Wikipedia says Ultimate has 74 playable fighters, or 89 counting downloadable content. This tier list splits pairs and the three Mii Fighter classes, so it has more individual entries.
What are echo fighters?
SmashWiki notes that most full clones in Ultimate are labeled Echo Fighters. Daisy, Lucina, Chrom, Dark Pit, Dark Samus, Richter and Ken are among the characters that play much like another fighter.
Which fighters were added as DLC?
Downloadable fighters released from January 2019 to October 2021 include Piranha Plant, Joker, Hero, Banjo & Kazooie, Terry, Byleth, Min Min, Steve, Sephiroth, Pyra/Mythra, Kazuya and Sora.
How should I rank Smash fighters?
Many people rank by competitive strength, but others rank by design, personal favorites or series. With 80-plus entries, a tier list works best if you decide your rule before you start.
